I am Rob (a Graphic Designer), one of the founding partners of Unicorn Studios. Along with Steve (a Software Developer) and Dan (a Live Event Producer) we established the studios in June 2019. We all have freelance businesses that are based here.
We run it as a not-for-profit side project, as we identified a need for a better, more sociable, and collaborative co-working space in Ipswich. We wanted to create a place where we would actually like to work.
Our members range from artists, freelancers, business owners and fully employed remote workers.
Over the last few years we have been gradually developing the studio space to fulfil the needs of our members e.g. building a booth for phone calls and video conferencing and developing the basement as a meeting room and events space.

A sketch of the Unicorn Inn, Ipswich in 1886. Initially, it was a hotel that was part of a large brewery complex, owned by Nathaniel Catchpole & Co.
In 1897, The Unicorn and the surrounding streets were decorated to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
The Unicorn Brewery was used as offices/studios in the 1980s & 1990s, then it remained empty for years before being refurbished as flats.
Alongside our beloved studio, The Unicorn building now houses a number of businesses, including an escape rooms and wedding shop.
